The report is temporary. The useful data can outlive it.
A testing package can include several layers: the physical test, processed raw data, provider interpretations, and account features. Those are separate products even when they appear on one checkout page.
Sequence or genotype data
The actual measurements generated by the lab. This can range from selected SNP positions to high-volume whole-genome reads.
Downloadable files
FASTQ, BAM/CRAM and VCF for sequencing, or TXT/CSV genotype exports for consumer microarrays.
Interpretation reports
Human-readable summaries built on top of the data. Their coverage, evidence standards and update policies vary by provider and package.
Raw-file cheat sheet
| File | Plain English | Why keep it |
|---|---|---|
| FASTQ | Raw sequencing reads plus quality scores | Closest to the original sequencing output; useful for re-processing |
| BAM / CRAM | Reads aligned to a reference genome | Useful for visualization, quality review and variant re-calling |
| VCF | A list of called variants and metadata | Compact and widely used for annotation workflows |
| TXT / CSV genotype | Selected SNP calls from a microarray | Portable into some ancestry and research tools |
Current Dante packaging
Do not assume every report comes with the base test.
As checked October 25, 2026, Dante lists whole genome sequencing from $449 with 90+ reports and 30+ polygenic risk scores included, and a Premium plan at $99 a year for 760+ reports. Raw BAM, FASTQ and VCF files are listed with the test. Packaging can change, so verify before ordering.
